Angelique Barreto MD., MSc is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Barreto is a professional member of the American Academy of Family Practice and American Society of Bariartic Physicians. Dr. Barreto has been the Primary Investigator on several national and international medical research trials in diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and weight management.
Dr. Barreto believes that one of her primary roles as a doctor is to PREVENT the complications of Obesityoccurring. In addition to diagnosing and treating these conditions with medications, Dr. Barreto believes that one of the best treatments she can offer is supervised Medical Weight Loss. Obesity, declared a specific disease entity by the National Institutes of Health, is believed to affect more than 58 million people across the nation, and has been established as a major risk factor for hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and some cancers in both men and women.
Dr. Barreto is Medical Director of Barreto Health Care, and has treated thousands of overweight and obese clients in Oklahoma and surrounding states. She has also cared for the extremely challenging morbidly obese (>100 lbs. overweight) patients with co-morbid medical conditions. She assists these clients with a supervised Medical Weight Loss program, as well as advises them on their changing medical conditions and medication management while they are enrolled in a weight loss program.
Dr. Barreto earned her Medical Degree from the renowned Madras Medical College, India, a Master’s Degree in Health Services from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, U.K. She completed her Residency at Saint Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City, USA, followed by a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at theUniversity of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She mentors medical students and nursing students and has been published in medical journals.
